Stressing the need for digital sovereignty, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday called upon India’s youth to develop homegrown social media platforms to ensure that the nation’s technological ecosystems remain secure, independent, and self-reliant, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

PM Modi challenges Indian youth to create indigenous platforms for a secure digital future.

  • Speaking during the 79th Independence Day address, the Prime Minister said, “From operating systems to cybersecurity, from deep tech to artificial intelligence, everything should be our own”

  • He cited the success of India’s UPI platform, noting that it handles 50% of the world’s real-time digital transactions, proving India’s technological strength

“Why should we depend on others? Why should India’s wealth go out? I challenge the youth of my country — come, build our own platforms,” Modi urged, reinforcing the call for indigenous solutions in the digital domain.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a time when there has been a growing demand for indigenous operating systems and social media networks, viewed as critical for safeguarding national data and communication systems, similar to strategies adopted by other countries to ensure digital autonomy.
